Mary (Petuck) Baker, 64, passed away at her home in Claremont, NH, on February 16, 1983. She was born in Claremont on January 6, 1919, the daughter of Konstantine and Paraska (Vrazevich) Petuck, emigrants from Belarus.

 

She was a member of the Class of 1937 at Stevens High School.

 

She married Walter Baker in Claremont on September 15, 1940, but he preceded her in death in July 1982.

 

She worked at BankEast for eighteen years before she retired in 1978. She was a member of the Sisterhood of the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church and a member of its choir.

 

Surviving is daughter Susan Kraus of Kiawa, KS; two grandchildren; her brother Nathan Petuck of Sullivan, WI; and sister Sonya Kroll of Woodbridge, VA.

 

Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery.

 

Walter Baker, 65, died at his home in Claremont, NH, on July 24, 1982, after a long illness. He was born in Claremont on November 15, 1916, the son of Ignace and Zinaida "Jennie" (Canashevich) Baker.

 

He graduated from Stevens High School, Class of 1935. During World War II, he served with the 101st Airborne Division in Bastogne and the Alsace-Lorraine theatre. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

 

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for thirty-three years, retiring in 1975. He was a former treasurer of the VFW Post 808 and a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, where he directed the church choir for almost fifty years. In his youth, he was a member of the Holy Resurrection Choir, which became quite famous and traveled across the state with Liturgical and folk music concerts. For the rest of his life, he remained faithful to this calling.

 

He married Mary Petuck on September 15, 1940, in Claremont.

 

Surviving is his wife, his daughter Susan Kraus of Kiawa, KS; two grandchildren; two brothers Nicholas Baker of Tolland, MA, and Mitchell Baker of Toms River, NJ; and a sister Laura Provost of Claremont.

 

Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery.
